⚙️ How Each Stat Is Counted
Word Count
Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace. Hyphenated words like “well-being” count as one word. Numbers also count as words.
Character Count
Every character is counted including spaces, punctuation, and line breaks. The “no spaces” count excludes all whitespace characters.
Reading Time
Based on the average adult reading speed of 238 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, the average conversational speaking pace.
Unique Words
Counts how many distinct words appear in your text, ignoring duplicates and case. Useful for measuring vocabulary diversity in your writing.

No. All counting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never sent to any server, stored in a database, or accessible by anyone else. Once you close or refresh the page, the text is gone.

Reading time is calculated by dividing your word count by 238 — the average adult silent reading speed in words per minute, based on research published in reading science literature. The result is rounded up to the nearest second. For complex or technical content, actual reading time may be longer.
Sentences are detected by counting punctuation marks that typically end sentences: periods (.), exclamation marks (!), and question marks (?). If your text has no sentence-ending punctuation, it is counted as one sentence. Sentences within quotes or abbreviations like “Dr.” may occasionally cause minor miscounts.
