โ๏ธ How The Discount Calculator Works
The Formula
Amount Saved = Original Price ร (Discount% รท 100). Final Price = Original Price โ Amount Saved. Simple, accurate, and instant.
Visual Bar
The animated progress bar shows the discount percentage visually โ so you can immediately see at a glance how good the deal actually is.
Shopping Use
Great for comparing deals across stores, checking if a “sale” is genuinely good value, or calculating how much budget you need at checkout.
Business Use
Use this for calculating client discounts, bulk pricing, promotional offers, or checking the final price after applying a coupon or promo code.
โ Frequently Asked Questions
To calculate a discount manually: multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then divide by 100. That gives you the amount saved. Subtract it from the original price to get the final price. For example: $200 with 25% off โ savings = 200 ร 25 รท 100 = $50 โ final price = $200 โ $50 = $150.
To find the original price when you know the final price and discount: divide the final price by (1 โ discount%/100). For example, if you paid $75 after a 25% discount, the original price was 75 รท (1 โ 0.25) = 75 รท 0.75 = $100.
Two discounts do not simply add together. If an item has a 20% discount and then a further 10% off, you first apply 20% to get the intermediate price, then apply 10% to that new price. The combined effect is not 30% โ it’s 28%. Use this calculator twice in sequence for stacked discounts.
Yes. The calculator shows the $ symbol but the math applies to any currency. Simply enter your price in your local currency and interpret the results accordingly. The percentage-based discount calculation is identical regardless of currency.
This calculator shows the discounted price before tax. To add tax, take the final discounted price and multiply it by (1 + tax rate/100). For example, a $150 discounted item with 8% tax = 150 ร 1.08 = $162. You can also use our Percentage Calculator for this step.
